Using Siemens Autocad Electrical Library

In this article, we will explore how to use the Siemens Autocad Electrical library to map schematic components and part number assignments back to panel layouts.

To begin, let's position the footprint where we want it to land in our schematic. We can do this by clicking on the 'Insert' button and selecting the desired footprint from the Siemens Autocad Electrical library. Once selected, the footprint will be attached to our cursor and we can place it in the desired location.

The left-hand column of the screen shows what is currently found in the panel layout drawings. This lists all of the schematic components found in our project, including motor starters, coils, and other control devices. To add a new component to the list, we simply need to pick on the 'Panel' > 'Schematic List' command as shown above.

Once we have added the new component to the list, we can modify our panel layout to take into account our additions in the schematic. We can do this by selecting a Siemens part number for the NEMA 2 contactor and hitting OK. The assignment will then be pushed out to the MFG and CAT attributes on the parent coil symbol for 'M427'.

We can also use the 'Lookup' button to more easily make a part number assignment. When we pop in the motor starter coil, the Insert/Edit dialog pops up as shown above.

In this example, we have used the existing 'WDDEMO' project that installs with AcadE to illustrate how AutoCAD Electrical maps schematic components and part number assignments back to panel layouts. The concept is exactly the same when applied to all control schematic devices, including motor starters, coils, and other control devices.
